An Iraqi poet born in Babil, Fadel Al-Sultani holds a BA in English Literature from the University of Baghdad’s Faculty of Arts. He worked in the 1970s in the main paper of the Iraqi Communist Party. In 1977, he left Iraq for Morocco where he studied for two years, then moved to Algeria. In 1985, he moved to Syria and finally settled in London in 1994. Al-Sultani worked in several cultural magazines outside Iraq and currently serves as President of the Union of Iraqi Writers and Journalists in the United Kingdom alongside his regular job as editor of the cultural page in the London-based Al-Sharaq Al-Awsat newspaper.
From the idea of a house that opens its door to the cultures and sciences of the peoples, to the house whose owner used to write and gather what happens in the place and outside it … the house of Abdullah Al Zayed was the first to found journalism in Bahrain with a modern press and library. He was also the first to open a cinema. He was the only editor who worked passionately to publish the weekly Bahrain Newspaper, and even encouraged aspirants to write about literature and culture.
