Tahar Ben Jelloun is a French writer of Moroccan descent (from the city of Fez). He belongs to the second generation of Moroccan writers who wrote in French and has many books in poetry, fiction and stories. Ben Jelloun’s works are immersed in folklore and magic where he was well known in Francophone countries, especially after receiving the French Goncourt Prize for the novel Laylat Al-Qadr. He began writing poetry with the literary magazine Souffles in Morocco before shifting to novels and stories in the 1970s where he authored numerous literary works. A frequent
