Originally from the south west of France, Martin Gastal graduated in Physics from the Ecole Nationale Superieure de Physique de Grenoble, France. He spent five years working as R&D engineer and project manager in the organization IMEC in Leuven, Belgium.   In 2003 Martin joined the European Organization for Nuclear Research, CERN. In 2005 graduated from an executive MBA program with a major in project management. After 17 years at CERN, he holds the position of CMS experimental area manager, in charge of large infrastructure projects for the CMS detector. His passion for international relations in general, and the Middle East in particular, led him to become the CERN adviser for the MENA region in 2016. Since then, he has thrived to setup scientific collaborations between CERN and the region
