He is a Saudi critic, thinker, and translator with a PhD in English and American literature from Purdue University, where he wrote his dissertation on Orientalism in European Literature. He is an English comparative literature professor at King Saud University in Riyadh. He had previously served on the Shura Council in 2009. He was the editor-in-chief of several Saudi newspapers and a member of King Saud University’s Scientific Council. He was also the President of the Riyadh Literary Club and a member of the UNESCO Board of the International Fund for Cultural Support. He attended numerous lectures and conferences throughout the world.
