A Professor of Islamic Civilization at the Lebanese University and Saint Joseph University in Beirut, Al-Abtah has also served as cultural editor in Al-Sharq Al-Awsat’s Beirut bureau since 1995. She earned her PhD Islamic civilization from Sorbonne University and was a member of the Center for Studies of Celestial Religions of the National Center for Research and Science in Paris. Al-Abtah has been a cultural journalist since 1989, working for numerous Arab newspapers and magazines over that span.
The center widened its embrace of more friends and lovers of culture through the renovation of a new auditorium. This cultural space was founded and inaugurated and with the generous support of His Majesty King Hamad bin Issa Bin Salman Al Khalifa, King of Bahrain, and designed by international architect David Chiaverini of the PAD firm.
