Najwa bin Shatwan is a Libyan poet and novelist residing in Italy. She holds a Master’s degree in Education and works. She has many published works, including novels, short stories and theatrical plays. Her first novel, The Horses’ Hair was published in 2005. Her keen interest in the history of slavery in Libya inspired her to write another novel The Slave Pens, published in 2016. She won 3rd place at the Sharjah Festival of Arab Creativity in 2002 for her play The Coat and 1st place in the inaugural Sudanese Al-Begrawiya Festival in Khartoum, the 2005 Arab Capital of Culture, for her novel The Horses’ Hair

The house itself, located at the heart of the city, opens its doors to cultural production in the fields of thought, literature, politics, philosophy, culture and art.
