A resident of Washington DC and professor at Johns Hopkins University, Iranian writer Athar Nafisi has a fellowship from Oxford University and formerly worked in Iran as a professor of English Literature at the University of Tehran, the Islamic Open University and the Allama Tabatabai University before being expelled from the University of Tehran due to her refusal to wear the veil and settled in the United States in 1997. She wrote many articles in American newspapers and is a frequent guest on radio and television programmes.
