Amin Zaoui is an Algerian writer, thinker, and novelist, known for his prominent literary works. He has made significant contributions to literature and translation, working across French, Spanish, and Arabic languages. Zaoui served as a professor of critical studies at the University of Oran, where he obtained his doctorate with a thesis on “The Image of the Intellectual in Maghrebian Novels.” He also taught at the University of Paris VIII and previously served as the Director of the National Library of Algeria in Algiers. Zaoui has authored ten novels, half of which are in French and the other half in Arabic, in addition to two short story collections. In 2012, his Arabic novel The Goatherd was nominated for the Arabic Booker Prize.
