Hamed Al-Hamoud Al-Ajlan, born in Kuwait in 1951, studied at the American University of Beirut, earned an engineering degree from the University of Michigan, and a PhD in Economics from the University of Exeter, UK, with a doctoral thesis critically examining Islamic economics and finance, which was later published as the book “Usury, Economics, and Islamic Finance” (2011). Active early in student and intellectual life, he began writing in 1972 and currently contributes weekly to Al-Qabas newspaper, with publications in other prominent Arab newspapers and journals. He worked in the oil and maritime sectors, founded companies in construction systems and project management solutions, served as advisor to the Kuwaiti Minister of Education, and participated in civil committees for educational development.
From the idea of a house that opens its door to the cultures and sciences of the peoples, to the house whose owner used to write and gather what happens in the place and outside it … the house of Abdullah Al Zayed was the first to found journalism in Bahrain with a modern press and library. He was also the first to open a cinema. He was the only editor who worked passionately to publish the weekly Bahrain Newspaper, and even encouraged aspirants to write about literature and culture.
