Tarek Hajji is an Egyptian liberal thinker who focuses on promoting values of modernity, democracy, and women’s rights in the Middle East. He has delivered numerous lectures at prestigious universities such as Oxford, Tokyo, and Princeton, advocating for economic, political, and cultural reform in the region. He received the Grinzane Cavour Italian Literary Prize in 2008 and has authored 21 books on Middle Eastern issues. Hajji has worked in various fields, including with Shell International, and holds membership in the boards of international research centres. The University of Toronto established a scholarship in his name for research in comparative religious studies.
