Khalaf House – Memory of Manama

The Mohammed Khalaf house is a beautiful home, densely detailed and incredible. It has been called the House of the Oud since it was built in 1921, and from its facade protrude wooden mashrabiyat considered the most beautiful in Bahrain, marked by intricate decoration and precise craftsmanship. Its atmosphere is fertile, open to discovery, to amazement, by the features embodied within.

Through the Sheikh Ebrahim Center’s Memory of Manama project, the city has come to embrace the beauty of its history in the form of elaborate museum exhibitions, where the doors to the house also open the story of a pearl merchant family through its holdings and effects. The house has remained true to the characters and features that defined it. This memory is revived through documents and pictures of the people of Manama, as well as a collection of tools and possessions of pearl merchants on display.

The Khalaf family donated this beautiful place as a gift in the service of spreading culture and deepening its impact. This project was carried out with the support of the Gulf International Bank.
