A writer and translator from Egypt who serves as both the Secretary General of the General Union of Arab Writers and Writers and as President of the Egyptian Writers Union. He graduated from the American University in Cairo with a master’s in mass communication. Salmawy held a number of positions, including English language and literature instructor at Cairo University’s Faculty of Arts, foreign affairs editor for Al-Ahram newspaper, undersecretary for external relations in the Ministry of Culture, and editor-in-chief of both the English-language Al-Ahram Weekly and the French-language Al-Ahram Hebdo newspapers.
