Reem Bassiouny is an Egyptian writer, novelist, and a professor at the American University of Cairo. She holds a BA in English from the University of Alexandria, and a master’s and doctorate in Linguistics and a doctorate in Political Discourse Analysis from the University of Oxford where she also taught. Reem Bassiouni won the Sawiris Literary Award for her novel Doctor Hana’a, an award from the USA for best translated work for her novel The Pistachio Seller and the Naguib Mahfouz Award for Literature from the Supreme Council of Culture for her novel The Children of the People: The Mamluks Trilogy. She published several novels and scientific books.
