An Egyptian writer, Mohamed Salmawy studied English at the Faculty of Arts in Cairo University and went on to earn a diploma in Shakespeare Theater from Oxford University in England. He then enrolled in the American University in Cairo where he obtained a Master’s degree in mass communication. Salmawy taught English and literature at the Faculty of Arts at Cairo University before moving in 1970 to Al-Ahram newspaper to work as a foreign affairs editor. Over his career, Salmawy held the position of editor-in-chief of the English-language edition of Al-Ahram Weekly and editor-in-chief of the French-language Al-Ahram Hebdo newspaper, in addition to his daily columns in Al-Ahram and other newspapers. Salmawy has written many books on theatre, novels and stories.

The house itself, located at the heart of the city, opens its doors to cultural production in the fields of thought, literature, politics, philosophy, culture and art.
